  • Smar to perform at Penn State Harrisburg

    Jay Smar will perform folklore and coal mining songs of the Northeast on Thursday, April 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the Penn State Harrisburg library. The reception begins at 6:30 p.m.

    With two guitars, baritone vocals, claw-hammer banjo, fiddling, singing, and flat-footin’ (a form of clog dancing), Smar serves his audience an “acoustic buffet” of traditional American and original folk, ol’ time mountain music, bluegrass, and gospel tunes, as well as coal mining songs of Northeast Pennsylvania preceded by their origin.

    Penn State Harrisburg will present an Academic Perspective on Currents Events panel titled “The West Coast Shipping Strikes and Supply Chain Issues” on Wednesday, April 1, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Olmsted Building Gallery Lounge on campus.

    The discussion will focus on the effects of the recent West Coast shipping strikes on supply chain management.
